The major sources of these gases are industrial units that use coal or oil, petroleum refineries, cement manufacturing, metal processing, paper & pulp manufacturing, copper smelting, textile production, chemical manufacturing and waste disposal etc.

Keeps moisture at bay at Eagle Cement, Philippines

Fly ash being very hygroscopic tends to absorb the moisture from the surrounding air which results in lumping and caking.

Eagle Cement Corporation is a fully integrated Filipino-owned company manufacturing, marketing, sale and distribution of high-quality cement under the brands Advance Type 1P, Exceed Type 1P and Strongcem Type 1.

Their primary cements production facility located in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, which is the single largest cement manufacturing plant in the Philippines in terms of production quantity. Fly Ash is one the major elements/ingredients of their cement. Since, fly ash is highly hygroscopic, it tends to absorb the moisture from the surrounding air which results in lumping. Moreover, once that happens, it cannot be used for manufacturing cement.

The fly ash is transferred from the inbound trucks (from Coal Thermal Power Plant or Steel Plant) to the fly-ash separator, where it is separated from the residual un-burnt coal. After separation, it is transferred to the cement manufacturing plant.

This process is managed with fresh air being pre-cooled and dehumidified at normal atmospheric pressure. Thereafter, high static pressure fans force the dry air to carry the fly ash into the separator pneumatically.

To ensure the fly ash does not absorb moisture during conveying, Eagle Cements contacted the Airgineers at Bry-Air Philippines. The Airgineers recommended that the dew point of the air reduced to -30 °C. The dew point was accomplished by a customised dehumidification system, which controlled the absolute humidity.
