Uneven drying and stress-induced cracking during vulcanisation (a crucial process advancement in rubber manufacturing) leads to rejection and leak test failures during the manufacturing of latex gloves.

Vulcanised latex rubber due to its evident advantages of stronger elasticity, resistance and durability is the preferred substrate for manufacturing of gloves and condoms. It prevents the latex rubber from becoming weak, sticky, blistered and porous and thereby, preventing surface cracks and deformation of the gloves.

The Solution

Thus, to get medical gloves to pass the series of stringent quality control checks and leak test with ease, humidity-controlled conditions is a must. The temperature and the humidity of the drying process during vulcanisation have to be regulated carefully and hence, vulcanisation process is usually suggested to be undertaken in a dust free, moisture controlled filtered air room.

The general recommendation is to control humidity at 35% ±% RH at 25°C
