About Bata India

Bata India, a part of Bata Shoe Organization, is India’s largest footwear retailer and a prominent manufacturer. Originally established in 1931 as Bata Shoe Company Private Limited, the company commenced its operations as a small venture in Konnagar, close to Calcutta, the following year. The first construction project for Bata’s operations, which is now recognized as the Bata township, was initiated in January 1934. Over time, the site’s area was doubled, and it became popular as Batanagar. Notably, this manufacturing facility became the first in the Indian shoe industry to achieve the ISO: 9001 certification.

The Problem

The leather stock of Bata India is located near a pond. Due to the damp climate in the area, mould and fungus started developing on the leather sheets.
