Reducing Pre-cooling Time

Frequently Faced Problems

Slow cooling of confined spaces like columns/vessels/reactors leads to increased shutdown periods.

General Recommendation

Steaming is done at the initial stage for bringing the temperature down from a very high level (eg:1500ºC). After 200ºC, rapid cooling is not recommended as stress may develop in the structure, thereby, resulting to cracking of various parts and reduction in the life of the equipment.

Desired Parameters – RH: less than 60%, Temperature: 30º-35ºC.

Our Solution

Steaming can bring down temperature to around 150ºC, and environment is made inert inside a column/ vessel by nitrogen purging. When the temperature is brought below 125ºC then the main job in any process plant is to bring temperature to 30º-35ºC for man entry.

Dehumidifiers and condensing units along with blowers & ducts increase the cooling rate as compared to natural cooling, thereby saving precious time and ultimately leading to increase in profits.

During maintenance, hot jobs like welding, cutting etc. are carried out, resulting in toxic gases/fumes, lack of oxygen, high temperature and high RH. These factors result in workers taking frequent breaks.

Further, toxic gases are injurious to health of workers, inspection/maintenance team etc and pose a serious safety problem.

Quality of work suffers due to above and further condensation(in night time or in humid area) can lead to corrosion.

Dehumidifier with condensing unit, blowers etc. can maintain comfortable working conditions in the confined spaces.

TDS provides desiccant based dehumidifiers,condensing units,blowers,ducts along with technical manpower to maintain the desired levels of RH ie less than 60% and temperature between 30º-35ºC. Moisture laden air enters through the process inlet of the dehumidifier and moves through the desiccant media where the water vapour is adsorbed and the dehumidified air is then delivered into the controlled space. Then the desiccant media is reactivated by hot air in the reactivation sector. After reactivation the dry desiccant rotates back in to the process airstream where it is cooled and is ready for the adsorption process again.
