Contaminated
Air?
Contaminated air generated from
today's industry is laden with undesirable gaseous compounds
such as hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide, mercaptans,
chlorine, ammonia, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons etc.
which cause corrosion of process computers and delicate
electronic equipment.
Effects
Leads to complete component destruction
e.g. breakage of sensitive wires & circuits, failure
of delicate chips, transistors, ICs etc.
Causes Sporadic electrical hiccups, called intermittent
which frequently cause minor computing or controlling
errors may contribute to prolonged disruption or even
complete shutdown of the plant.
Result
Corrosion of electronic components causes
- production stoppages
- increased production cost.
- higher maintenance budgets
- lower productivity and sometimes, false signals / alarms.

Why do we need
to protect our control rooms?
Studies have shown that atmospheres
which produce corrosion rates greater than 0.1 microns
per year cause unacceptable number of corrosion - related
failures of micro-circuitry.
Corrosion Rate per year vs. Equipment Failure (in
micro-circuitry)
< 0.1 micron
No failures found
> 0.1 micron
Intermittent failures in 1-2
years
> 0.4 micron
Inoperative in 2-4 years
> 0.6 micron
Intermittent failures in 0.5
- 1 year
> 2.0 micron
Inoperative in 0.25 - 0.5 years
For electronic equipment, corrosion rate has to be below
0.1 micron per year.
For electrical equipment, the same can be as high as
0.5 micron per year.
(1 micron = 0.001 mm)
The
Solution.
Bry-Air, an ISO
9001 and 14001 company, a pioneer in the field of
dehumidification equipment offers 'state-of-the-art'
Air and Gas Purification Systems for various
application areas. The ultimate
solution to corrosion lies in gaseous filtration which
involves passing the contaminant laden air stream through
a bed of dry media placed in a properly designed housing.
The principle of air purification is simple : the contaminated
air passes through pre-filters which retain dust and
particles, and then the required chemical media
stages (combination of activated carbon and activated
alumina impregnated with proprietary chemicals) which
chemically destroy any remaining gaseous contaminants.
It is a simple, yet cost effective solution to a problem
that can be very costly from a production standpoint.
Besides a complete line of
gaseous filtration products ranging from filter media
to adsorber housings, Bry-Air offers the latest technology
in gaseous adsorption such as Ammonia-Gas Phase Activated
Carbon process which greatly increases the adsorption
capacities of activated carbon.
Standard sizes of Bry-Air
ECOSCRUB air and gas purification equipment range
from 72 m3/hr (40 cfm)
to 86,400 m3/hr (51,000 cfm) offered in both pressurization
as well as re-circulation modes. All Bry-Air systems
are designed to operate and maintain corrosive gas levels
at 1 ppb or less.
